Architectural Rings

Rings shown here were inspired by "Poise and Ivy," a men's clothing store in a college town in Minnesota. The countryside around this town is covered with poison ivy plants.

Colorful Ring Toys

Wishing to add more color to the rings, I used plastics as a way to make these mechanical rings more interesting.

Bearing Bear Rings

These rings are used to give bearings to the wearers in three-dimensional space. They are based on tools already used in differing circumstances to locate level, vertical, direction and time.

Gears are used to provide the movement for these rings.

Race Rings

Ideas for the pieces that are visual translations of puns originate from bits of conversations, daydreams, and scenarios. A pun involves a much more complex connection of ideas than a straightforward statement. Two or more seemingly unrelated messages must simultaneously be concluded.

Necklaces

As with many of the rings, these necklaces were inspired by puns, for example; the Dinah Shore series combines icons associated with Dinah Shore and dinosaurs. Read artists statements to learn about particular necklaces.

Pens

Ideas for these pens originated from the pun based on the multiple meanings of the word pen, such as writing pen and animal containment pen.

Reliquaries

The reliquaries are intended to not only honor the animal as a member of the family, but to comfort other family members by representing some of the qualities that might be missed when the animal dies. These qualities include tactile, motion, smell, or sound.

Toys

Besides the ring toys, I have made a few larger mechanical roll toys.

Vessels & Boxes

Although I have spent most of my time in the studio making jewelry-referenced artworks, I have attempted to work on a slightly larger scale making vessels and boxes.
